5 Indicators That Your Microbiome Balance Is Compromised.

Your microbiome – or community of bacteria that live on your gastrointestinal tract – is made up of both “good” and “bad” bacteria, yeasts and other types of micro-organism.

Your whole system relies on the balance between good and bad bacteria being kept within specific parameters and to maintain this balance, the good bacteria need to have a higher percentage than the bad.

Your microbiome is essential for maintaining both your physical and mental health. Plus, it’s where more than 70% of your immune system is based and provides your first line of defence against, viruses, toxins and other pathogens.

Additionally, they produce vitamin K – necessary for blood clotting – and B vitamins that are utilised in energy delivery.

That’s all well and good, but how do you tell if your microbiome is in – or out – of balance?

As with many problems, it’s all about being aware of your body and looking out for tell-tale signs – most of which are obvious.

\here are 5 signs that your microbiome balance is compromised:

1) Wind and/or bloating
2) Heartburn or indigestion after eating
3) Diarrhoea and/or constipation
4) Food intolerances or sensitivities
5) Constantly catching coughs and colds

The good news is that by restoring your microbiome balance you can make significant and speedy improvements to all these symptoms.

Simply by addressing your diet, reducing your stress levels and getting more (and better) sleep, you will be improving the state of your gut microbiome.

If you add a walk to your lunchtime routine (following a healthy lunch) and try to fit a period of meditation – or just calmness – into your daily schedule, you’ll be helping to reduce stress and improve your sleep patterns.

As we’ve said in previous emails, adding fermented foods to your diet will improve the health of your microbiome.

But it’s also about reducing processed foods and foods and drink high in refined sugars.

This doesn’t mean going on some health crusade, it’s just about being aware of what you eat.

Just by making these small changes to your life will soon relieve and then eliminate the symptoms of poor gut health.

Keep it up and you’ll soon wonder why you put up with these symptoms for so long.
